BA(HONS) I M.ARCH I ARB I RIBA
Thank you for visiting my portfolio, I hope you enjoy viewing my work. This page hopefully tells you a little about me + my background.
I am a qualified Architect based in Portsmouth with a passion for design + photography. Growing up in rural Somerset I have a deep rooted connection to the countryside, a great love for nature + an active lifestyle.
I studied for both my undergraduate + Masters in Architecture degrees at the University of Portsmouth before joining Southampton based Boyle+Summers: Architecture + Masterplanning in 2014, where I am currently still employed. In 2015 I fully qualified as an Architect having completed my RIBA Part III studies. I have over 5 years post part III experience, working across numerous sectors at all design stages including residential, office, commercial, education, mixed use + leisure. My broad experience has allowed me to work from the urban scale to the technical detail, making me a versatile + adaptable team member. Developing my role as a project Architect + job runner I naturally thrive in a team environment under pressure, balancing my communication, conceptual + technical skills to help create beautiful designs fit for purpose, supported by over 10 years Revit (3D BIM) experience.
My architectural style strives for simple + elegant design that harmonises with the surroundings in a sustainable manner. As 'Sustainable Champion' at B+S I strongly believe as Architects + the construction industry as a whole we have a critical role in the tackling the 'Climate Emergency' though carefully considered design from inception, team collaboration + client engagement. This will be the greatest challenge of our generation, you will find me on the front line.
Please visit my Architecture page to view my portfolio of work with Boyle+Summers as well as my private domestic commissions.
Beyond Architecture I dedicate most summer weekends to my main interest Cricket, where I play in the Hampshire leagues. I also enjoy spending my time doing DIY + home improvements, city breaks + keeping fit with a variety of sports, in particular running + cycling, both of which I have raised money for charity. One of my proudest sporting achievements was cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats, raising over £1000 for charity Shelterbox.
Throughout the (many) years of my architectural education I developed a passion for photographing buildings in urban contexts. I have taken several study trips + personal city excursions. I am fascinated by closely photographing the detail of the architecture + how it tells the story of the design, style of its time + function of the building. I love to shoot in black + white as this allows the image to focus on detail, materiality, form + texture. I equally enjoy using colour to celebrate the vibrancy, energy + culture of the city.
'Cityscapes: Through the eyes of an Architect' seen on my photography page is a series of city based albums that celebrate the architecture, culture + the history of the place through its architectural detail, materials + urban street scenes.
All images are my own, taken with my Panasonic LumixGX9 + Iphone for the earlier albums, all right reserved copyright protected © awap.
Please have a look through my albums on my Photography page. If you enjoyed the 'cityscape' series + it related to your own experiences of the city, I can happily offer bespoke framed collages or collections with a selection of your favourite images.
If you would like to make an inquiry of either an architectural nature or commission of framed photography, please leave your details + description of your requirements on the contacts page + I will be look forward to getting in touch at the earliest opportunity to discuss how I or Boyle+Summers can help you realise you vision.
